Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The buzz around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
